Far too many people lead lives of quiet desperation. But you know better, so you’ll keep pursuing adventure, to big cities and small towns alike. This, you believe with all your heart, is the only option worth choosing.
We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose the time of our birth, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness…. we do choose how we live.
How do you choose to live? I can sit and whine all day about how tough life is. I can blame everyone around me. I can blame myself and just wallow in self-pity. But I have sto stop and ask, does doing this improve my situation?
…it’s so easy to drop a coin, to hand a note to every poor man begging on the street. but i wish to do more. to stop and talk. to give more when I know I can’t. but, i look and think and yet do nothing.
